Our Team

Expertise in product development and manufacturing and is responsible for these areas within the company alongside his CEO role in the company. Gatis previously has worked in Alta Devices (Silicon valley, USA), EuroLCDs (Latvia, a spin-off from HansaMatrix) and now also is head of lab in Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia. His group in few years has attracted funding 1.5M+ Eur, grown to 10+ persons and managed equipment upgrade worth 2.5M+ Eur.

Gatis Mozoļevskis

PhD – Co-founder and CEO

I’m one of the co-founders and the CTO of Cellbox Labs, where I lead a talented engineering team turning ambitious ideas into organ on chip instruments and consumables that make biology behave, and data behave better. My work lives at the intersection of microfluidics, precision manufacturing, and system engineering, with a clear bias toward making complex technology practical, reliable, and ready for real labs. Before Cellbox Labs, I worked on the Q-CAS cassette at QuantuMDX, contributing to a product that later became part of an acquired platform. Off the clock, I’m happiest on rock, climbing and tackling via ferratas, and I remain an avid basketball fan, despite my entirely average skills on the court.

Roberts Rimša

PhD – Co-founder and CTO

I am one of the co-founders and the CSO at Cellbox Labs, where I lead the biology team and drive the biological design, validation, and testing of our organ on chip products. My role sits at the interface of product development and life science research, ensuring that complex biology is translated into robust and industry-ready systems. I hold a PhD in Molecular Biology and bring over 15 years of experience in cell biology, cancer research, and advanced in vitro models across academic and applied settings. Outside the lab, I move between hyperbaric (scuba diving) and hypobaric (mountaineering) environments, occasionally stress testing biological hypotheses from dynamic in vitro experiments against real-world physiology.

Artūrs Ābols

PhD – Co-founder and CSO

I am a biologist at Cellbox Labs. I hold a PhD in Molecular Biotechnology from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. As if doing a PhD wasn't challenging enough, I decided to do my PhD in disease modeling using patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). My expertise is in the generation, culture, and differentiation of iPSC into various cell types. To level up the difficulty even more, I am integrating iPSC-derived cells in organ-on-chip systems to develop even better human disease models. In my personal life, I am a bookworm with a TBR list taller than the Burj Khalifa and an enthusiastic concertgoer, much to the detriment of my bank account.

Caroline Küstermann

Senior Researcher

I’m a Senior Electronics Engineer at Cellbox Labs, holding a PhD in Electronics and a strong background in system-level hardware development. I work across the full design cycle, combining research experience with practical PCB design, integration, and hands-on problem solving. I adapt quickly, enjoy learning on the go, and feel equally comfortable designing, building, and troubleshooting. Beyond engineering, I recharge by being outdoors — riding my gravel bike, swimming, enjoying saunas — and by spending time with my family.

Matīss Maltisovs

Senior Electronics Engineer

I am an Application Engineer at Cellbox Labs, holding a PhD in Molecular Biology with extensive experience across the full spectrum of "white biology." I function as a multidisciplinary Swiss Army knife, bridging the gap between complex biological models and functional hardware. As the lead trainer, I personally deliver instruments and teach customers how to master organ-on-chip technology. Whether I’m optimizing OOC methods, performing system testing, or grabbing a screwdriver for technical troubleshooting, I simply enjoy ensuring the whole setup remains reliable and ready for research. Outside the lab, I am an Audi enthusiast who enjoys mechanical maintenance and tuning.

Arnis Strods

Application Engineer

R&D Engineer focused on building real products, not just concepts. I take ideas from early design through prototyping and testing to production-ready systems. My expertise covers mechanical design, CAD, advanced materials, and hands-on integration of automation, motor control, and electronics. I work best in fast-moving, product-driven teams where results matter more than titles or slides. Outside of work, travel, mountains, and hiking help keep my mindset sharp and resilient—traits I bring back into engineering challenges. I believe strong products are built through clarity, action, and engineering discipline.

Vitālijs Zaharevskis

R&D Engineer

It all started with the big bang or something, one thing led to another and there I was - thrown in this flesh prison for some strange reason. Now I am doing software for Cellbox Labs. Since our product is widely used to grow cancer cells, I ponder a question daily - are we the bad guys? Is there going to be a documentary where ominous music starts playing when I'm just doing my job? Are we playing God? I hope that my work here will allow for better conditions for our mortal shells. Anyway, it must be noted that I am a big fan of cats.

Andrievs Zalāns

Embedded Software Engineer

I’m a systems engineer at Cellbox Labs, responsible for the design, integration and testing of the instruments and concepts. My job lives at crossroads of electronics, microfluidics, biology, mechanical systems, and embedded engineering, basically making sure all the vital organs of the platform work together and don’t flatline. I hold a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Nanotechnologies from Riga Technical University, with a strong focus on biomaterials and applied research. Outside of work, I am unapologetically a light roast coffee snob and a dedicated gamer, continuously driving operational excellence, optimizing workflows, and applying a results-driven mindset to complex, high-stakes environments.
