Our Team

I am an Application Engineer at Cellbox Labs, holding a PhD in Molecular Biology with extensive experience across the full spectrum of "white biology." I function as a multidisciplinary Swiss Army knife, bridging the gap between complex biological models and functional hardware. As the lead trainer, I personally deliver instruments and teach customers how to master organ-on-chip technology. Whether I’m optimizing OOC methods, performing system testing, or grabbing a screwdriver for technical troubleshooting, I simply enjoy ensuring the whole setup remains reliable and ready for research. Outside the lab, I am an Audi enthusiast who enjoys mechanical maintenance and tuning.

Application Engineer

It all started with the big bang or something, one thing led to another and there I was - thrown in this flesh prison for some strange reason. Now I am doing software for Cellbox Labs. Since our product is widely used to grow cancer cells, I ponder a question daily - are we the bad guys? Is there going to be a documentary where ominous music starts playing when I'm just doing my job? Are we playing God? I hope that my work here will allow for better conditions for our mortal shells. Anyway, it must be noted that I am a big fan of cats.

Andrievs Zalāns

Embedded Software Engineer

I studied biotechnology and bioengineering at Riga Technical University and the University of Latvia, and now I’m into materials science and nanotechnology, which helps me bridge biology and engineering. Most of my days at Cellbox Labs are spent making organ-on-chip devices, working with microfluidic systems, and participating in testing. On other days, I create digital materials — a very Gen Z habit. In the evenings, I live a very different life as a professional athlete, competing internationally and trying to run as fast as I can. To balance things out, I love baking sweets and making art.

Daniela Lasmane

Chip Engineer

I am a biologist at Cellbox Labs. I hold a PhD in Molecular Biotechnology from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. As if doing a PhD wasn't challenging enough, I decided to do my PhD in disease modeling using patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC). My expertise is in the generation, culture, and differentiation of iPSC into various cell types. To level up the difficulty even more, I am integrating iPSC-derived cells in organ-on-chip systems to develop even better human disease models. In my personal life, I am a bookworm with a TBR list taller than the Burj Khalifa and an enthusiastic concertgoer, much to the detriment of my bank account.

Caroline Küstermann

Senior Researcher

With a background in chemical engineering and materials science, I have found myself as a Chip Engineer at Cellbox Labs. My main tasks are with a focus on chip device fabrication, quality, and keeping the stock healthy! As I am family-oriented by nature, I treat chips the same way — with care, patience, and attention to detail. I love turning chaos into organized systems, which have pulled me with one foot also into manufacturing execution, quality control, and inventory workflows. Team culture and environment matter a lot to me, so I tend to hype my colleagues up through daily fun and different team building activities. Outside the lab, I love to train coordination through the dance and piano, enjoy nature and urban exploration, and lose hours to Japanese crosswords!

Arnita Spule

Chip Engineer

I am a researcher at Cellbox Labs, responsible for cell culture and organ-on-a-chip model development. I hold a Master’s degree in Biology from University of Latvia, with a focus on cell and molecular biology. My expertiese lies in the development of in vitro model systems, with particular empahsis on organ-on-a-chip technolgy. During my Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis work, I focused on advanced organ-on-chip modelling and contributed to a wide range of application cases, including cancer research, microbiota studies, drug delivery studies, and model devlopment using primary and patient-derived cells. When I’m not busy building miniature organs, you’ll find me traveling, chasing new expieriences or pushing my limits at the gym.
