Developing a first-in-class vascularized Gut-Brain-Axis-on-chip platform for accelerating research and drug discovery (GBA-Connect)

Project number and acronym: 5304 GBA-CONNECT

Funding: Eureka, Eurostars 3 - Call 5

Period: 1st of April 2024 - 31st of March 2026

Project costs: 250 000 Eur

Project coordinator: Cellboxlab

Project partners: Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Teadusmosaiik OÜ, Fewer Moving Parts Ltd

In this project we will develop a first-in-class vascularized Gut-Brain-Axis (GBA) on chip platform that consists of (1) a GBA model developed on our proprietary best-in class chips for research and drug discovery and (2) a second version of our hardware instrument for automatic organ-on-chip culturing, monitoring and analysis. Our GBA model will be based on consortium's pre-existing first-in-class gut-on-chip model with co-cultured anaerobic microbiota and know-how in developing blood-brain barriers in vitro. The second-generation instrument will be upgraded with manifold and special dedicated pumps that are necessary to enable automatic culturing of the GBA model and other multi-organ-on-chip models.
