In this project we will develop a first-in-class vascularized Gut-Brain-Axis (GBA) on chip platform that consists of (1) a GBA model developed on our proprietary best-in class chips for research and drug discovery and (2) a second version of our hardware instrument for automatic organ-on-chip culturing, monitoring and analysis. Our GBA model will be based on consortium's pre-existing first-in-class gut-on-chip model with co-cultured anaerobic microbiota and know-how in developing blood-brain barriers in vitro. The second-generation instrument will be upgraded with manifold and special dedicated pumps that are necessary to enable automatic culturing of the GBA model and other multi-organ-on-chip models.
