Cellbox Labs together with Latvian Biomedical Research and Study centre, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Teadusmosaiik OÜ and Fewer Moving Parts kicks off Eurostars project GBA-Connect. In this project we will develop a first-in-class vascularized Gut-Brain-Axis (GBA) on chip platform that consists of (1) a GBA model developed on our proprietary best-in class chips for research and drug discovery and (2) a second version of our hardware instrument for automatic organ-on-chip culturing, monitoring and analysis. Our GBA model will be based on consortium's pre-existing first-in-class gut-on-chip model with co-cultured anaerobic microbiota and know-how in developing blood-brain barriers in vitro. The second-generation instrument will be upgraded with manifold and special dedicated pumps that are necessary to enable automatic culturing of the GBA model and other multi-organ-on-chip models. GBA model barrier penetrance will be validated with two clinically approved drugs, contrasting their uptake and potential passage through BBB to ensure our systems reliability and potential applications in real-world drug evaluations.
